Diet is an important part of everyone’s life, and that especially applies if you’re working to create a new life. What foods a want-to-be mother eats often plays a large factor in her fertility rating and chances of conceiving a child. If you are interested in conceiving and/or just want to boost your fertility, pay close attention to your diet and the following foods.
1. Spinach
When it comes to fertility, calcium is a prime, necessary vitamin and you should focus on increasing calcium intake (if possible). Green leafy vegetables provide an excellent source of calcium which helps your body with ovulation issues. Contrary to popular belief, green vegetables actually contain more calcium than milk!
2. Lean Turkey, Chicken, or Beef
Iron is another key nutrient in your daily life and when you want to give birth, and these lean meats are brimming with it. While too much protein can negatively affect your fertility rating, you should consume two servings of foods with higher iron content each day.
3. Salmon
Like green vegetables, salmon has a high fat content which is secretly wonderful for fertility health. The omega 3 fatty acids contained from salmon are actually miracle workers when it comes to conceiving a child, and work to help the reproductive system. Increased blood flow to the reproductive organs, minimized stress, and regulated hormones all work wonders for your fertility scores. Not everyone likes fish, however, so if you find yourself looking for any alternative provider of omega 3 fatty acids, you can eat walnuts, eggs, or flaxseed. Supplements are also a viable option if necessary.
4. Yams
There is reason to believe the starch in a yam and the absence of high carbohydrates, like regular potatoes, can somehow affect and increase fertility. Regions where yams are eaten regularly have a proven, heightened increase of bearing twins. Hardly a coincidence, when diet and nutrition are kept in mind.
5. Berries
Loaded with antioxidants, these little foods are perfect for keeping your body healthy and safe from damage and aging. Antioxidants protect the cells in your body, and help to repair, rejuvenate, and feel revitalized. These are good for your partner, as well, as numerous studies have proven berries can help increase sperm count and keep them healthy.
6. Oysters
Oysters are an aphrodisiac, yes, but listing them here isn’t some sex joke. While they can aid to induce the baby-making process, they’re also filled to the mouth with zinc, a nutrient desperately needed by every wanting mother. Without zinc, the complete menstruation cycle, egg production, and the health of the egg can all be severely jeopardized. Even if you don’t like oysters, zinc is also found in many lean meats, nuts, and legumes.
What Not to Eat
Salmon was suggested, but other fish can have a devastating outcome on your chances of getting pregnant. Mercury is a no-no for fertility, and can even cause severe problems for pregnant woman. Mercury has been known to severely harm the baby and even cause mothers to lose it, in extreme cases.
Trans fats should always be avoided, attempting to conceive or otherwise. Trans fats destroy pregnancies and drastically reduce your chances of becoming pregnant, so be sure to watch everything you’re eating now, while you’re trying to conceive that little one, and later, when you’re carrying a baby in your womb.
